SUMMERVILLE, SC – The Mobil Travel Guide has again bestowed upon Woodlands Inn its Five Star Award for both accommodations and dining. It is the sixth consecutive year that Woodlands has been awarded both coveted hospitality ratings, making it the only property in South Carolina to achieve this distinction. According to Mobil, only 44 hotels nationwide will hold the Five Star distinction for 2009, while 20 restaurants will enjoy the same rating.

The Dining Room at Woodlands, which has recently received rave reviews from several publications, retains its position as the only Mobil Five Star restaurant in North or South Carolina. In honor of this award, and for a limited time, Woodlands is offering five courses for the price of four in The Dining Room. The “Five for Four” offer is $75 per person, exclusive of taxes and gratuity. It is valid until March 31, excluding February 14.

Woodlands is also one of only four properties nationwide to hold the Mobil Five Star and the separate AAA Five Diamond ratings for both lodging and dining. Woodlands has held these distinctions since 2004.

Woodlands has just undergone a $2 million enhancement program, which includes the refreshment and refurbishment of all public spaces, dining areas and guest rooms, and also the addition of a new casual dining offering called Pines. Built in 1906, Woodlands features 18 guest rooms and suites, a country guest cottage, a day spa, croquet lawn, red-clay tennis courts, a temperature-controlled swimming pool, a variety of meeting facilities, and golf privileges at nearby area courses. The Dining Room at Woodlands is widely known for its innovative and sophisticated version of New American cuisine, and the use of fresh local foods to create a nightly menu with a Lowcountry influence.

Since 1958, the Mobil Travel Guide’s ratings process has been based on more than 750 standardized criteria for hotels, making it the most rigorous and comprehensive in the industry. The process begins with a facility inspection that considers every aspect of the property, including its overall cleanliness, condition and location. To achieve Five-Star status, properties must meet or exceed Mobil’s bar-setting service standards, which are determined through an unannounced, undercover service evaluation conducted by Mobil’s expert inspectors.
