Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course recognized as one of Golf Digest’s “Top 100 You Can Play”

Larry Packard design one of only five Florida courses on esteemed list

INNISBROOK, FL – Golf course raters agree with their professional playing counterparts – Innisbrook’s famed Copperhead Course is one of the nation’s finest!

The host venue for the annual PGA TOUR’s Transitions Championship, the par 71, 7,340-yard Copperhead has been recognized as one of Golf Digest’s “Top 100 You Can Play.” It is one of only five Florida courses on the list, which is among the most respected and longest-running industry course rankings.

Designed by Larry Packard, Copperhead is routinely praised by professionals who challenge its lengthy, rolling terrain, including World Number One Martin Kaymer, who recently told a worldwide TV audience that the course was the best he’d played in the United States.

“Achieving this type of recognition from such an esteemed publication as Golf Digest, following on from the wonderful comments we received from the world’s best players, is a reflection of the positive changes we have recently made at Innisbrook,” said Resort Managing Director Lloyd Williams.

Like all four courses at Innisbrook, Copperhead features numerous elevation changes with many uphill and downhill tee shots, which encourages creative shot making. The surrounding lakes, ponds and swamp lands are home to abundant wildlife, including fox squirrels, Canadian geese, alligators, raccoons, blue herons, and many other types of water fowl. The last three holes have recently been re-named “The Snake Pit” because of their challenging nature.

Innisbrook is located on Florida’s west coast just 25 minutes from Tampa International Airport. Owned by Sheila C. Johnson and managed by Salamander Hospitality, the resort recently completed over $26 million in resort-wide renovations to include new restaurants and a gourmet market, the addition of a new 20,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, and enhancements to its golf courses, clubhouses, lodging, and recreation and tennis facilities. Featuring four courses and over 600 suite accommodations, it is renowned as a golf destination, hosting the LPGA Legends Tour Open on its Island Course, in addition to the Transitions Championship each March.
