Innisbrook named recipient of prestigious GIFTTS Award from Preferred Hotels™

INNISBROOK, FL (December, 2009) – Preferred Hotel Group has announced the 2009 leaders of its GIFTTS: Great Initiatives for Today’s (Tomorrow’s) Society Hotel Recognition Program, based on the premise that true hospitality extends to the community beyond a hotel or resort’s doors. Innisbrook, a Salamander Golf & Spa Resort and a Preferred Hotel member since April 2009, received Preferred’s prestigious Pineapple Award and was additionally singled out for exemplary efforts in not one qualifying category, but all three: community, philanthropy and the environment.

Now in its fourth year, GIFTTS shines a light on members who serve as exemplars of corporate responsibility within the hospitality industry. The 2009 leaders were selected from over 50 entries from member hotels and resorts across the globe.

This year, Innisbrook's staff created Innisbrook Cares, a community outreach committee, which has contributed more than $30,000 in 2009 with in-kind donations facilitated by hotel staff. The resort also has a Charities of Choice Committee that spearheads a variety of activities to benefit those in need. Area organizations to benefit from these efforts include the Children’s Cancer Center and Florida Blood Services. The resort’s Green Team was also successful in obtaining green certification from the Florida Green Lodging Association, and has educated associates to create a cultural shift within the community towards sustainable practices.

Managed by Salamander Hospitality, Innisbrook recently completed over $26 million in resort-wide renovations to include new restaurants and a gourmet market, completely renovated conference and banquet facilities, golf course, lodging and tennis facility enhancements, and the addition of a new 20,000-square-foot luxury spa and fitness center. Additionally, the resort’s two new restaurants and spa are now open to area residents by reservation.
