Innisbrook celebrates National Mulligan Day with Poll and Do-Over Package
Resort honors quirky October 17 holiday with poll about sporting mishaps,
month-long “Do-Over” package and two-for-one specials
INNISBROOK, FL (August 23, 2010) – When things go wrong, who wouldn’t want a “do-over?” Just ask Dustin Johnson, or even Brett Favre.
The sports world has been abuzz with Johnson’s costly 72nd-hole penalty in the PGA Championship, and Favre’s return to football – seven months after his last-minute interception cost the Minnesota Vikings a shot at the Super Bowl.
To have a little fun and celebrate National Mulligan Day on October 17 (yes, it really exists), Innisbrook, a Salamander Golf & Spa Resort, in Florida’s Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg area has launched a poll of five sporting mishaps from the past 12 months most in need of a “do-over.” And, it’s no surprise that Johnson and Favre feature prominently. The resort has also a created a special “Do-Over” Package for the month of October. Featuring a variety of two-for-one deals, it was designed especially for golfers who have had an unsatisfactory experience elsewhere.
A mulligan is the practice in golf of hitting two shots but counting only one. For weekend hackers, it’s as much part of the bag as a seven iron.
The poll is free to take at www.sportsmulligans.com, and features:
- Golf: Dustin Johnson grounds his club in a bunker on the 72nd hole at the PGA Championship, incurs a 2-shot penalty and costs himself a place in a playoff
- Soccer: England goalkeeper Robert Green commits a howler against the USA in the FIFA World Cup
- Baseball: Umpire Jim Joyce calls Cleveland’s Jason Donald safe and blows a perfect game for Detroit Tigers Pitcher Armando Galarraga
- Football: Brett Favre throws an ill-advised interception against the New Orleans Saints, costing the Minnesota Vikings a shot at the Super Bowl
- Tennis: OK, so it's not a blooper, but would John Isner and Nicolas Mahut really want to play a 138-game fifth set again?
Throughout October, Innisbrook – which hosts the annual PGA TOUR Transitions Championship on its Copperhead Course, is offering a “Do-Over” Package that starts at $330 per person. The packages features two nights in a two-bedroom suite, two rounds of golf, two breakfasts and two sleeves of balls – all for the price of one. Throughout the day on October 17, the resort will also offer two-for-one golf, spa, tennis, restaurant and bar specials – including the return of last year’s “Mulligan-tinis.”
Rates are based on double occupancy, do not include taxes and are subject to availability. To book, visit www.sportsmulligans.com or click here, or call 800-492-6899. For additional information on Innisbrook, visit www.innisbrookgolfresort.com.
In the spirit of the wacky holiday, Innisbrook is also encouraging people to share other mulligan-worthy incidents, sporting or otherwise, via Facebook and Twitter:
- Facebook: On Innisbrook’s Fan Page, also available via www.facebook.com/innisbrook. Share a mulligan, sporting or otherwise, and register to win tickets to the PGA TOUR Transitions Championship. The best mulligan will also win a round of golf for two at Copperhead.
- Twitter: Use “#mulligan” in conversation and also follow @innisbrook or at www.twitter.com/innisbrook.
The poll closes at midnight on October 17, and results will be announced shortly thereafter.
