The third and final week of Tryon International Equestrian Center’s inaugural summer series of shows concluded this Sunday with a $75,000 Horseware Grand Prix victory for Jordan Coyne and Lazaro, who also won the top spot in last week’s Grand Prix at TIEC.

Riders showed in jumper, hunter, and equitation classes from Wednesday – Sunday at the newly announced facility in Tryon, North Carolina. Four different nations were represented in the Grand Prix, and the facility continues to attract a wide range of both local and international spectators. The facility includes 500 permanent stalls with fans in each one, air-conditioned restrooms, and Olympic quality footing in every ring, with even more improvements and amenities scheduled for the upcoming months.

On Friday, July 18, the main ring saw 16 entries tackle the $25,000 Welcome Grand Prix course, designed by this week’s course designer Emmanuel Esparza. Competition was tight, with only 2 first round clears. The top three finishers were Hayley Waters and Qurint (0 | 37.96), Derek Petersen and Cassevel (0 | 38.924), and Tony Font and Calotta (1 | 90.905). The class was followed by an Exhibitor Party, with food by Mountain View Bar-B-Que and wine kindly provided by Mountain Brook Vineyards in Tryon, NC.

On Sunday, the $75,000 Horseware Grand Prix saw 20 entries, with nine first round clears, making for an exciting and contentious class. A series-high record of 2,1000 spectators were in attendance. In the jumpoff, there were a total of four double clear rounds. The top three finishers were Jordan Coyne and Lazaro (0 | 37.29), Brian Walker and Tamara 296 (0 | 38.398), and Daniel Damen and Bahrain 8 (0 | 39.553), making this Jordan Coyne and Lazaro’s second Grand Prix win in a row at TIEC. Horseware Ireland generously sponsored the class, featuring the most prize money of any competition yet held at the facility.

Horseware started as a small company in Dundalk, Ireland in 1985, when it created the prototype for its now iconic Rambo Original horse blanket. Today Horseware stands as the world’s most trusted producer of horse blankets, and continue to set the standard for modern horse blanket design. TIEC extends tremendous gratitude to Horseware for the substantial support it provides to equestrian sport.

Sunday afternoon at TIEC also saw a final summer Ice Cream Social, served by volunteers from the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club. TIEC thanks Tryon Riding and Hunt Club for their support, from volunteers to sponsorship, during the past 3 weeks of competition. Live music followed the conclusion of the Grand Prix by Asheville-based Alan Barrington Band.

Tryon International Equestrian Center’s official Grand Opening will be held in October. They are currently preparing for their fall circuit, which will run September - October, with official horse show dates to be announced on their website in the coming weeks.
