3rd Legends Tour Open Championship Announces Presenting Sponsors, Additions to Schedule

Innisbrook, FL, September 28, 2011 – The Legends Tour, official senior tour of the LPGA, announced today that the 3rd annual Legends Tour Open Championship at Innisbrook Resort will be presented by Publix and Kraft Foods, a partnership that Jane Blalock, CEO of The Legends Tour, hopes will elevate the Tour’s only major championship to new heights.

The Legends Tour Open Championship will be held on November 11-13, 2011 on the Island Course at Innisbrook, A Salamander Golf and Spa Resort.  Managing Director, Lloyd Williams, said, “It’s an honor to have such an impressive field competing at Innisbrook this year.  The players have tremendous praise for the Island Course which is as beautiful as it is challenging, and we look forward to making this year’s event even more successful for players and fans alike.”   The event will feature a field of 44 Legends of the LPGA, including Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez and 2011 Solheim Cup Captain Rosie Jones, who won last year’s championship by five strokes.  Jones commented, "The Island Course at Innisbrook is a great test of Florida golf - not too long and very tight. I am looking forward to defending my title in November. If I can master my iron play and make some putts, I believe I will be competitive. Players like to feel the heat of competition and that is what I look for every time I tee it up on The Legends Tour."
In addition to presenting the championship, Publix and Kraft Foods are co-titling two new elements to tournament weekend that promise to enhance fans overall experience: the Healthy Living Expo, a select group of wellness and lifestyle vendors positioned near the clubhouse patio and the Birdie Walk, an on-course walk that leads fans to various checkpoints for vendor samples, culminating at The Legends Tour merchandise tent for a free t-shirt. The expo will be open Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; event attendees can take the Birdie Walk from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., also on Saturday and Sunday.
 
“The expo and the walk are opportunities to further engage Legends fans and reiterate our sponsors’ – and our Tour’s – message of good health and wellness,” noted Blalock. “Our Legends are committed to continued healthy living through the game of golf and in all other aspects of their lives.” 
 
This featured healthy living initiative at the Legends Tour Open Championship presented by Publix and Kraft Foods is further shared by the event’s new charitable partner, Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF). “We are very excited to partner with the Legends Tour,” said GSWCF CEO Kim Jowell, “and for the opportunity to introduce girls throughout the area to what may be a new activity that will encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle now and for years to come.” 100% of the ticket proceeds from the tournament will benefit GSWCF.

Lemon Street in Tampa.  Event tickets can also be purchased at the gate. There is no charge for Friday’s Pro-Am, but spectators are welcome to make a donation to GSWCF at the entrance gate. Children 17 and under and all military personnel with ID gain free entrance every day.
